Implant Dentistry

Implant dentistry offers tremendous benefits to patients with missing teeth. Dental implants are strong, look and feel natural, and allow you to bite, chew, and smile with the same confidence you had with your natural teeth. They not only restore functionality of teeth, but also can provide a cosmetic solution. Dental implants can even preserve facial contours and prevent the bone deterioration that occurs with tooth loss. Many people tend to think that it is not necessary to replace a missing tooth. The reality is that gaps in your smile can cause the remaining teeth to move out of their alignment leading to other oral problems in the future. At Dr. Tischler’s office we perform all phases of implant dentistry; from surgery to prosthesis, the whole process can be completed under one roof!

The Process of Dental Implants

If you are missing one or more of your teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants. At your first visit at CLT Dentistry we will examine your mouth, and jaw bone to determine if the procedure is right for you. Before beginning any implant procedures, your gums and teeth must be healthy. If we identify any signs of cavities or periodontal (gum) disease, we will need to address it prior to initiating dental implant treatment.

Once you are cleared for the procedure, the staff at CLT Dentistry will take an impression of your mouth to create a customized surgical guide just for you! The next step in the process is to gently place the dental implant (a titanium screw) into the jaw. Once the dental implant is placed it will take several months for the titanium implant to fuse with your jawbone. After healing is complete and the implant is secured in the jaw, we will design a new crown to attach to the the implant surface. The new crown will be customized to look and feel like your remaining natural teeth.

How to Care for Dental Implants

Dental implants are very durable and easy to maintain. Caring for your dental implants is very similar to caring for your natural teeth. Proper home care and good oral hygiene is necessary for maintaining the health of your dental implants. Additionally, it is important to schedule dental exams and professional cleanings at least twice a year to keep your teeth and dental implants in optimal condition. Many patients also benefit from use of an oral irrigator or Waterpik to clean underneath and around the implant.
